Time Lag

Bottom of Form
from Plasterer’s Mate 1992 by Toby Granville

You stare at me, impatient to be away
as the five o’clock light dapples your
marbled nakedness. Your eyes are already
elsewhere, every nerve striving escape.

The pan you fried eggs in lies empty,
the last of yesterday’s papers sculpted by
plaster wipings wait the black plastic bag.

Now our history-moled basement walls
are hung with new ochre skins
made from your unblemished plaster,
Drying in the trapped heat.

Timp Pierdut

Ma privesti cu ochii mari, nerabdator sa pleci
pe masura ce lumina orei cinci iti invaluie
goliciunea de marmura. Privesti deja in alta
parte, cautand scaparea cu fiecare nerv .

Tigaia in care ai prajit oua e goala,
ziarele ramase de ieri, sculptate cu banda
elastica, asteapta sacii negri de plastic.

Pe zidurile din subsol muiate de trecut
atarna fasii colorate în ocru
adunate din tencuiala ta neatinsa,
care se usuca in caldura prinsa-n loc.
