CAROLYN O'CONNELL

Time Lag

Bottom of Form
from Plasterer’s Mate 1992 by Toby Granville

You stare at me, impatient to be away
as the five o’clock light dapples your
marbled nakedness. Your eyes are already
elsewhere, every nerve striving escape.

The pan you fried eggs in lies empty,
the last of yesterday’s papers sculpted by
plaster wipings wait the black plastic bag.

Now our history-moled basement walls
are hung with new ochre skins
made from your unblemished plaster,
Drying in the trapped heat.

Decalaj

Te uiti la mine, nerabdator sa pleci
In timp ce umbrele amiezii iti acopera
Goliciunea de marmura. Privirea ta este deja
In alta parte, fiecare nerv zbatandu-se sa evadeze.
Tigaia in care ai prajit oua zace goala,
Ultimele ziare de ieri pline de urmele de ipsos intarit
Asteapta cosul de gunoi
Acum, peretii pivnitei noastre plini de amintiri
Sunt acoperiti cu straturi de tencuiala noua
Facute din ipsosul tau imaculat
Care se usuca in caldura incinsa.
