IOANA IERONIM

Three Dances Under The Crescent

sometimes just a flash
that seems to get us together
the split second zigzagging
between there and here
bouncing off stars
bouncing off
every cell

this quickness of ours
this now
the coincidence

one
beat

*

the shortest line between two points
is a straight line

but such a thing does not exist

so the shortest line will be slightly curving
under the huge cosmic breath

it will be this curving Milky Way
gleaming traces left by a god
who has just stepped across

: I can rarely see it here with my naked eye
because of the city
but there is something in us that can find it
whether in the dead of night
or in broad daylight

some unspeakable Braille

*

a labyrinth of mirrors
that brings us so close
keeps us so far

a gaze
a feeling
an illusion, like exotic fish in a pond
who are there
but they aren’t
or not quite where we thought

a labyrinth of mirrors
in which one steps
forgetting about doors

*

to be your odalisque in one of these lives
and dance for you
and play the tanbur and the cither

being for you enraptured
in self-abandonment and bliss
as an ancient Sufi mode describes it

we have lost that language
though we still find it in books,
somebody has made us for that joy
some of it still here
in spite of us having bitten
the forbidden fruit

to be as blissful as children
as able of self-abandonment as they are

to be enraptured
as we ourselves can be
today

Trei dansuri sub semiluna

uneori doar o clipa
ce pare sa ne-aduca laolalta
acea fractiune de secunda in zigzag
intre acolo si aici
-ce sare de pe stele
de pe fiecare celula

aceasta repeziciune a noastra
acest acum
coincidenta

singura
bataie

*

cea mai scurta linie intre doua puncte
este una dreapta

dar nu exista un asemenea lucru

asa ca linia cea mai scurta va fi usor curbata
sub respiratia colosala cosmic

aceasta Cale Lactee curbata
va fi cea care va lumina slab urme lasate de-un zeu
care tocmai ce-a trecut pe taramul celalalt

: rar pot s-o vad cu ochiul liber
din cauza orasului

dar e ceva in noi care-o poate gasi
fie in miezul noptii
sau ziua-n amiaza mare

vreun Braille de negrait

*

un labirint de oglinzi
ce ne aduce atat de aproape
si ne tine atat de departe

privire insistent
un sentiment
iluzie, precum pesti exotici intr-un elesteu
care sunt acolo
dar nu sunt
-sau nu prea sunt unde-i credeam

un labirint de oglinzi
in care pasesti
uitand de usi

*

sa-ti fiu cadana intr-una din aceste vieti
si sa dansez pentru tine
si sa cant la tanbur si la lira

sa fiu fermecata pentru tine
in uitare de sine si beatitudine
precum o moda antica Sufi o descrie

am pierdut acel limbaj
desi inca-l gasim in carti,

azi
