"Another bad day. I made sure it was bad for Caliban, too. Sometimes he irritates me so much that I could scream at him. It’s not so much the way he looks, though that’s bad enough. He’s always so respectable, his trousers always have creases, his shirts are always clean. I really think he’d be happier if he wore starched collars. So utterly not with it. And he stands. He’s the most tremendous stander-around I’ve ever met. Always with that I’m-sorry expression on his face, which I begin to realize is actually contentment. The sheer joy of having me under his power, of being able to spend all and every day staring at me. He doesn’t care what I say or how I feel—my feelings are meaningless to him—it’s the fact that he’s got me. "

Inca o zi proasta. M-am asigurat ca va fi la fel si pentru Caliban. Uneori ma irita atat de tare, incat imi vine sa urlu la el. Nu din cauza felului in care arata, cu toate ca si asta e suficient. Este atat de respectabil intotdeauna, pantalonii sai intotdeauna sunt la dunga, camasile sale sunt intotdeauna curate. Cred sincer ca ar fi mai fericit daca ar purta gulere scrobite. Atat de extraordinar de ignorant. Si sta in picioare. Este cea mai inspaimantatoare persoana care sta in picioare pe care am intalnit-o. Intotdeauna cu acea expresie de imi pare rau intiparita pe fata, dar care incep sa inteleg ca este de fapt multumire. Simpla bucurie de a ma avea sub puterea lui, de a-si putea petrece fiecare zi, de dimineata pana seara, holbandu-se la mine. Nu ii pasa ce spun sau ce simt - sentimentele mele sunt neinsemnate pentru el - conteaza doar faptul ca ma are.
