Lions and lionesses stunned at one another
arrested in the field,
tender bulls, amorous goats
electrified and meek,
serpents dancing in the water and on scorched land
in a tall caduceus under their sun,
cells grazing at one another, rolling
roaring in stardust

As the sun comes and fills this house every morning
thus may you love and embrace me
as night falls with its soft darkness and stars from above
thus love and embrace me

as mirrors and windows and rivers and pools catch my radiance
and reflect it in space
may your eyes absorb that maze
and love and embrace me

do not worry do not fear
when it feels real and absolute
while you know it isn’t
or – maybe?

when it surprises and showers gold
out of the blue
and gets entangled around your fingers
like strings of pearls and amethyst

do not fear do not worry
it may be just like in Pirandello:
you rip the illusion, it comes back tenfold
it grows more real than you

for an hour

a story that is and is not
a tatter of being
fluttering in the wind
a tune of the day

while the silent Master plays with all of us

how many times did we listen to the same story as children
and wanted to listen again, all over again
as if in the meantime something might have been changed
though changed we didn’t want it

as if we looked for the spot where we might intervene
and stop the wolf, the dragon and the witch,
wipe away Death for good, with a leaf of the beasts’ weed
with a drop of living water that we had in our power

but when we tried to step across the threshold
the magic vessel would split and brake and hurt and vanish

and we absolutely had to listen to it once more
we had to try

Lei si leoaice uimiti unii de ceilalti
ce s-au oprit in camp,
tauri plapanzi, tapi dragastosi
electrizati si blajini,
serpi ce danseaza in apa si pe pamant parjolit
intr-un caduceu inalt sub soarele lor,
celule ce se zgarie una pe alta, invartindu-se
racnind in praf de stele

Precumsoarele vine si umple aceasta casa –n fiecare dimineata
astfel ma poti iubi si imbratisa
cum noaptea se-asterne-n intunerecu-i bland si stelele de sus
astfel ma poti iubi si imbratisa

precum oglinzi si ferestre si rauri si iazuri imi vad stralucirea
si o oglindesc in spatiu
fie ca ochii tai sa absoarba acel labirint
si sa ma iubeasca si sa ma imbratiseze

nu-ti fie teama nu te speria
cand simti ca e adevarat si absolut
in timp ce stii ca nu e
sau-oare e?

cand surprinde si revarsa aur
din senin
si se incurca prin degetele tale
precum siruri de perle si ametist

la fel de inexplicabil si fantastic
ca atunci cand ai intrat

de cate ori am ascultat aceeasi poveste cand eram copii
si vroiam s-o ascult din nou, de la capat
ca si cum intre timp ceva s-ar fi schimbat
desi nu vroiam sa se schimbe

ca si cum cautam locul unde am putea inteveni
sa oprim lupul, balaurul si vrajitoarea,
sa eliminam Moartea pentru totdeauna, cu o frunza din neghina bestiei
cu un strop de apa vie pe care o aveam in puterea noastra

dar cand am incercat sa trecem pragul
potirul magic se spargea si durea si disparea

si trebuia neaparat sa o mai ascultam o data
a trebuit sa incercam
din nou
