Blight


It first appears as a white fuzz
on the underside
of leaves.

Like an anger
that does not tell
it spreads to the stems

that blacken and wither
under the rainsplash
and wind-driven spores.

Then it falls
to the earth and buries itself
in the heart of the tuber

where it burrows and burrows
till all is black
all is rotten –

a sodden necrosis.
And then
there is no heart.

Daunatorul

Intai apare ca un puf alb
Pe spatele
frunzelor.

Ca o furie
Nerostita
Se-ntinde la tulpinile

Ce se-nnegresc si se-ofilesc
sub stropi de ploaie
si spori purtati de vant.

Apoi cade
la pamant si
se ingroapa
in inima tuberculului

unde scobeste si scobeste
pana cand totu-i negru
totu-i putred -

necroza purulenta.

Si-atunci
Nu mai e inima.
